Boxing Equipment

Boxing Gloves

Boxing gloves for beginners is a debated topic, and there have been many resources listed on the topic. To put it bluntly, there are two types of boxing gloves for beginners: bag gloves (or training gloves), and competitive or sparring gloves.
You will want to wear gloves. This is done to protect your hands while hitting a heavy bag, so it's best not to be cheap here or you'll end up buying a new pair after just a few weeks. Bytomic Performer 3.0 Carbon Boxing Gloves is a great cost-effective option for this. They are extremely light and comfortable which makes them ideal for beginners.

Hand Wrap

Hand wrapping is important if you want to protect all the small bones in your hands and wrists (which you do). It is also good to extend the life of your boxing gloves. The wrap collects sweat and blood that would drip down into your gloves.
Hand-wrapping comes in many sizes and styles. Long styles allow you the option to fold your hands in a variety of ways, including between the finger method and the basic method.
Twins CH-2 Premium Hand Wraps give you enough length to wrap your hands in a few different ways, as well as Mexican style wraps, such as Bytomic Heavy Duty Wraps. These are light stretches that make for a strong wrap on your hands. For beginners, a good option is the Venum Kontact Gel Gloves Wraps. These "wraps" just slide into your hands so you don't have to complete a particular wrap-up style yet --- just slide and go. They can be used for light output, speed bag exercises, or grip.

Heavy Boxing Bag

A heavy bag is only needed if you want to practice your boxing routine at home. If you plan to train only in the gym, there is certainly no reason to invest in a heavy bag. However, there is nothing more cathartic than throwing a few punches when you get home.
There are many options when it comes to heavy bags, but the total is that they weigh 70 pounds, are filled with a hard or soft filling, and are made of vinyl, leather, or fabric. They come with a mount to attach to your roof or stand.
A heavy bag is always a better choice than a light one as the extra weight will keep the bag from changing too much when you throw a strong punch.
Century makes one of the heaviest bags for beginners and pros alike. The Hydrocore Handing Bag is made of high-quality vinyl, so it will withstand years of strain without tearing or cracking.

Boxing Headgear

Quality boxing headgear is required if you plan to do live sparring. It will take a lot of beating, so it is important that you choose something that will last. A helmet protects you from being cuts and scraped, and you do not need to be protected from repeated hits to the head. You can still get blackout in the eyes, get a collision, or any other head-related injury, and wear headgear. It will reduce some of the blows, but it is not enough to prevent injuries from repeated blows.
There are many styles when it comes to boxing. They range from the smallest to the most revealing in your eyes. Ringside is a great way to punch if you want to protect sensitive areas like your cheeks, chin, and ears from injury. The straps will make sure they stay in place and will not cover your eyes every time you hit them.

Boxing Mouth Guard

Aside from boxing gloves, a mouth guard is probably the most important piece of boxing equipment for beginners. When fighting a mouth guard will protect your teeth from being pulled out, as well as your lips from open cuts behind the facial contours.
While you can get decent boils and build a mouth guard for about 2 quid, Shock Doctor makes an excellent product that costs more but will fit well and last longer. The V1.5 model resets your jaw after a stroke to reduce the damage done to your brain during the impact.

Groin and Chest Protectors

What to do if you plan to do any sparring. No one wants to be beaten where it hurts, so this is an important tool for beginners boxing or otherwise. Shock Doctor makes an excellent and inexpensive choice that gets the job done. Also important are women's breast protectors. The Bytomic Maxi-Guard Sports Vest is a great option as the protective gear is removable, so you can wear it as a sports bra with a piece of multi-functional gym clothes.

Boxing Shoes

Save the shoes for the end because it’s really up to you to decide whether to buy boxing boots or not. They’re not needed for beginners, especially if you don’t do any fights in the ring. However, if you want to show off in a battle that looks like the best ‘em, it might be worth the investment. Nike makes boxing boots with very cool details that are balanced weight and offer excellent grip.

Jump Rope

Even you probably think you don’t need jumping ropes, you’re wrong. Jump ropes increase your endurance and stamina. When you jump the rope you do it at a fast pace, which means you prepare your heart plan for whatever you plan to do next (training, sparring, matching…).
Don't forget, there are plenty of punches in 12 rounds of 3 minutes each, and you need to prepare your body. You have to be able to put up with all that, and at the same time hit the punches, and be able to accept them. One of the best and easiest ways to prepare your body for such a difficult task is to jump rope.
